Funding Information

YES Dallas is a national initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) – Office on Women’s Health: Youth Engagement in Sports (YES) Initiative: Collaboration to Improve Adolescent Physical Activity and Nutrition with in-kind support from Texas Health Resources. In Dallas County and throughout our 16 county reach in North Texas, Texas Health has been actively engaged in Community Impact Initiatives focused on reducing the effects of social determinants of health. The YES Dallas Initiative is an extension of these efforts.



Eligibility for YES Dallas Initiative

YES Dallas (Youth Engagement in Sports) is a new program aiming to increase physical activity and improve nutrition for middle school youth. The program is free to participants.


Participants must:
  • Be in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade.
  • Live in or attend school in the Pleasant Grove or South Dallas neighborhoods.
  • Commit to being active for at least 60 minutes a day.
  • Complete three fitness assessments and surveys over a 6-month period.
  • Provide permission from parent/responsible guardian to participate.

Program activities:

  • Sample a variety of sports and fitness activities.
  • Participate in cooking demonstrations and nutrition classes.
  • Earn prizes for participation.
  • Healthy snacks.
